Relativistic Theory of Superconductivity

چکیده
Relativistic effects in materials containing heavy atoms pervade many areas of condensed-matter physics [1-4]. The present chapter is devoted to the theory of relativistic effects in a particularly interesting class of materials, namely superconductors and other superfluids [5-9]. At its present stage that theory is limited to single-particle effects (on the level of the Dirac equation); a relativistic description of the particle-particle interaction is not attempted. However, already on the singleparticle level several unexpected relativistic phenomena in superconductors emerge, among them a novel type of spin-orbit coupling, present in superconductors only. The origin and the physics of these phenomena are discussed in this contribution.

متن کاملRelativistic mechanism of superconductivity
According to the theory of relativity, the relativistic Coulomb’s force between an electron pair is composed of two parts, the main part is repulsive, while the rest part can be attractive in certain situations. Thus the relativistic attraction of an electron pair provides an insight into the mechanism of superconductivity. In superconductor, there are, probably at least, two kinds of collectiv...
متن کاملA Holographic model for Non-Relativistic Superconductor
Abstract: We build a holographic description of non-relativistic system for superconductivity in strongly interacting condensed matter via gauge/gravity duality. We focus on the phase transition and give an example to show that a simple gravitational theory can provide a non-relativistic holographical dual description of a superconductor. There is also a critical temperature like the relativist...

The symmetries and conserved quantities of Manton's modified superconductiv-ity model with non-relativistic Maxwell-Chern-Simons dynamics (also related to the Quan-tized Hall Effect) are obtained in the " Kaluza-Klein type " framework of Duval et al. 1. Introduction Recently [1], Manton proposed a modified version of the Landau-Ginzburg theory of superconductivity. His equations, defined on (2 ...

In (2 + 1) dimensions, the Maxwell term − 1 4 F αβ F αβ can be replaced by the Chern-Simons three-form (κ/4)ǫ αβγ A α F βγ , yielding a novel type of 'electromagnetism'. This has been proposed for studying the Quantum Hall Effect as well as High-Temperature Superconductivity. The gauge field can be coupled to a scalar field either relativistically or non-relativistically. In both cases, one adm...
